Tracking down Notorious Marks in Final Fantasy 16 allows players to test their combat skills while earning essential crafting materials and resources. Among these side quests, the B-Rank hunt listing titled A Hill To Die On leads Clive Rosfield to face off against a formidable giant tortoise creature known as Fastitocalon. Understanding where to find this elusive mark and how to tackle its unique attacks will make the encounter much smoother for players exploring Valisthea.
Finding the Fastitocalon Hunt Location
The hunt becomes available on the Hunt Board after progressing to the main story quest called Riddle of the Sands. To track down the target, players need to fast travel to the Velkroy Desert in the Dhalmekian Republic. From the initial Obelisk, head directly toward the far northeastern corner of the desert area.
As you near the northeast edge next to The Bandit's Bed, keep an eye out for a rocky valley. Resting quietly in the center of the sand dunes is a large, crystal-encrusted boulder that will awaken as Fastitocalon when you draw near. The creature blends naturally with the desert environment, so checking your map carefully ensures you do not pass it by.
Combat Strategy and Boss Attack Patterns
Fastitocalon relies heavily on a thick armored shell, meaning melee attacks aimed at its body will bounce off without dealing much damage. Players should focus Clive's melee combos directly on the head while utilizing Eikonic abilities to bypass its outer defenses. Long-range abilities like Heatwave work exceptionally well to counter the beast when it shoots water projectiles across the battlefield.
During the fight, watch out for Fastitocalon's shell-spinning technique, which allows the tortoise to charge across the arena rapidly. Once its health drops below half, it will trigger Testudo Trompe, spinning through the air and summoning geysers of water underneath Clive. Simply dodge laterally to avoid the glowing sand spots and strike aggressively whenever the boss becomes staggered.
Quest Completion Rewards and Spoils
Defeating Fastitocalon yields immediate rewards that make the desert trek worthwhile. Upon winning the battle, Clive earns 1,100 Experience, 65 Ability Points, 10,000 Gil, and 20 Renown to improve his standing with the Hideaway. These gains help strengthen Clive's skills significantly as tougher threats loom ahead in the main campaign.
Additionally, victory grants two pieces of Scarletite, a rare crafting material required for high-tier equipment like the Drakeslayer's Belt and the Excalibur sword. Gathering these essential items early on provides Clive with critical stat boosts for upcoming boss encounters.
